Why most joint chews only do half the job

If you’ve given your dog a joint chew and didn’t notice much, it’s easy to assume supplements just don’t work. There’s a more useful explanation. Most chews are built around one idea — cushion the joint — and stop there. But your dog doesn’t move through joints alone.

Think about how a dog actually gets up, climbs stairs, or pushes off into a run. The joint bends, but the muscles around the hip and leg carry the load. When those muscles weaken, the joint takes more of the strain — no matter how much glucosamine you add. Supporting the joint without supporting the muscle is supporting half the system.

There’s a second problem hiding on the label. Many “premium” chews list a proprietary blend — a single number that hides how much of each ingredient is actually inside. A polite way of saying we’d rather you didn’t know. A pinch of the right thing still does a pinch of nothing.
